How to reach the realisation of alcohol being the problem. Not us!
Substances may be used to “stop gap” unmet needs. A change we can make is to think about what those unmet needs are. It is new and often uncomfortable to listen for emotions, share in a group or 1:1 - take stock at regular intervals “What am I thinking? What am I feeling?”.
If experiencing data points can we ask what mental cues, environments, emotions, or routines precede it? If we can locate the habit’s place in the rhythm of our storyline, we can begin to untangle it and pre-empt it —by saying and doing something new, inserting a mindful pause and responding rather than reacting."
